Description
The decontamination of MSPs
An MSP, or Microbiological Security Post, refers to collective protection equipment to prevent airborne contamination in laboratories. Specifically, it is a ventilated enclosure with very high air efficiency filtration to protect both the environment and the user when handling potentially dangerous biological pathogens.
The frequency needed to do decontamination
EN 12469 has been in effect since January1, 2003, recommending that regular decontamination of accessible and inaccessible MSP surfaces must be carried out:
- Before carrying out any type of maintenance
- Before changing the filters
- Before moving
- Before the waste dump
- After changing activity
- After noticing the presence of contamination
The standard EN 12469 is available in NF- EN 12469 in France; BS-EN 12469 in Great Britain; TUV-EN12469 in Germany.

Different types of MSPs
EN 12469 classifies MSPs into three types, based on the technological means implemented and the levels of protection provided.
PSM Type I
The PSM Type I only protects the user, i.e. it does not allow the protection of the products handled. The operator is protected by the creation of an airflow that will enter the enclosure open on the front and it is evacuated into the atmosphere after it passes through a very high efficiency HEPA filter.
PSM Type II
Type II MSPs protect both the user, the atmosphere and the manipulated product.
The protection of the user is carried out by an aspiration created on the front of the worktop forming a barrier between the operator and the manipulated product.
As for the protection of the atmosphere, this is done by evacuating the airflow outside the enclosure through a very high efficiency filter.
As for the protection of the manipulated product from contamination, this is done by the vertical one-way flow of filtered air. Dedicated equipment allows the flow to be programmed so that the filtered air flow is directed to the manipulated product.
PSM Type III
At the same time, the Type III MSPs provide operator and atmosphere protection but do not provide special protection of the product from cross-contamination due to the lack of one-way airflow in the enclosure.
The operator is protected by the creation of a volume of work in depression having no direct opening to the laboratory and the product by feeding the enclosure in air through a filter with very high efficiency.
The atmosphere is protected by the evacuation of the airflow outside the enclosure through two filters with very high efficiency, installed in series.
Our MSP decontamination devices
To decontaminate and disinfect MSPs, Ecosprayer offers effective devices, in particular:
- The disinfection device dedicated to small areas, 400-800-1200 ml/h flow
It is a table nebulizer, specially designed to disinfect small areas of less than 10 M3 such as: ambulances, pet cabinets, small laboratory rooms, closets, hoods, etc. Small, this device is not only autonomous but can be oriented and programmed for a flow of 400, 800 or 1200 ml per hour. Its rotating disc ensures effective airborne disinfection without mist or water flowing on the walls, thanks to its low flow and its quality of misting.
- The disinfection device, sprayer and nebulizer with a flow of 800, 1400 or 2000 ml/h
It is an innovative table nebulizer that allows perfect diffusion control to disinfect large areas by air up to 384 M3 such as hospitals, laboratories, schools, ambulances, pharmaceutical or agri-food industries, etc. It is capable of achieving a flow of 800 or 1400 or even 2000 ml per hour. Equipped with rotating disk technology, the device operates on a sector, which is broadcast with a fan. The blast produces aerosol droplets towards the edge of the disc.
- The programmable wall nebulizer with a flow of 400, 800, 1400 or 2000 ml/h
This device can be controlled remotely by a simple dry contact. Fast delivery guaranteed 2 years.
